Workshop Practice and Digital Media
PME Workshop Practice
As part of the Professional Masters of Education in Art and Design, a body of research and a community of practice was established. The module linked immersive artistic practice and curriculum through a series of workshops in printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and painting.
Combining this inquiry-based learning with reflective practice became the basis for the Units of Learning that followed. Most significantly for me, the community of practice fostered in these weeks highlighted the value of collaboration and communication as a source of inspiration and guidance in career.
ICT in Education: Creative Digital Media Practice and Pedagogy
In a dynamic, hands-on module, I developed a series of digital media works, growing my expertise and capacity to take new and relevant practices into the classroom. Using resources and tools readily available to students, stop motion animation, video editing, sound editing, and photography were the means of exploring the local environment, personal histories, and the community. Inspired by this work, I developed a Short Course with colleagues, Lorraine Masters, Dubheasa O'Ceallaigh and Rebekah Nolan titled Local Storytelling with Digital Media, which combines 21st-century forms of communication with tradition, encouraging students to meaningfully connect with their local environment and the people around them.
