SEN Case Study

This screencast is a post-placement reflection and case study of a student who presents with ASD.

Working closely with the case study student, cooperating teacher, and SNAs to gather research, this case study presents an analysis of my capacity to teach students with educational needs, as a mainstream Visual Art teacher. Artworks, field notes, and questionnaires were triangulated with reflective diary entries to further understand how best to support an ASD student. Guided by literature and the research conducted by my colleagues of the PME, I could assess my findings within the boarder context of a whole school approach to differentiation and the provisions for ASD students in Ireland.

As I discussed in my Teaching Philosophy, I aim to create learning environments where inclusivity and divergent thinking are valued and celebrated. Through the making of art in all its forms, and considered differentiation, the opportunities for success are at every step of the process. This case study is just the beginning of my training to support all students, particularly those with additional needs, and I look forward to fostering these skills through professional development and practice.
